The links between a woman’s ligaments and pelvic floor muscles can start to strain and weaken over time from straining the muscles of the pelvic floor or from childbirth. If that happens, a woman’s bladder can start to slip down out of its normal position into the vagina, which is when a cystocele occurs.

Common Symptoms

Some of the symptoms associated with bladder prolapse cystoceles are:

• A sensation of either pressure or fullness in the vagina and pelvis when standing for extended periods of time
• Discomfort from lifting, coughing or straining
• A protruding tissue that bulges through the opening of the vagina and feels like sitting down on an egg
• A sensation that you haven’t fully emptied your bladder after you’ve urinated
• Urinary leakage or pain during intercourse
• Bladder infections that occur often

Treatment Options

A bladder prolapse cystocele can be treated with surgery that is performed vaginally by an experienced miVIP surgeon who will lift your prolapsed bladder back into its proper position.
